"Neko" is the Japanese term for cat. Nekoshima are spirit beings that are cat-shifters. Though Nekoshima is what they are called in Japan, they actually exist all over the world, and so the origins of these beings are actually very diverse and are not unique to only Japanese culture.

These cat beings have a cat form and a human form, and often their human appearances retain feline traits. They like to bless others with luck, fortune, prosperity, good health, and other great things in general to those they see as deserving of their generosity. However, some are known to punish those by bringing misfortune to the ones who invest in actions or behavior of injustice.
